Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A senior official stated the incident left him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
